Creating the Perfect Ambiance: Essential Wedding Day Lighting Tips for Hampshire Brides

If you have seen our images you will already have a good idea of our photography style. we LOVE light and our style is defiantly light and airy I personally think is quite dreamy. We mainly only use our flash for the reception and we will avoid it as much as we can during the day thats just how we work. I guess you could say thats just our style of photography as well as reducing the distraction of the flashes.

Your wedding venue will have a lot to do with the lighting on your wedding day think big windows. Think natural light. Some Hampshire wedding venues have amazing light and others can be quite dark.

The morning of your wedding when you are having hair and make up done you will always find me turning off lights I always ask hair and make up first if this is ok with them. I do this because hotel lighting is nearly almost always yellow. Its just not very flattering so my first job is turn them lights off and open them curtains. It's a huge bonus if this has already been done before we arrive.

If you are getting married in the winter do remember the light will be gone early around 4.30pm it may be dark. Have your wedding ceremony as early as possible that way you will have time for your family formals and maybe some just married portraits of the two of you before the light is gone.

The best light of the day has got to be golden hour most photographers will probably agree. You will get that golden dreamy look in your images and it really is beautiful. This is only achieved if the sun is out when its going down. This does mean if your wedding day is overcast or wet unfortunately you may not get this glowy look in your photos. This does need to be planned in advance to ensure your portaits are taken when the light is best and this is something we mention at our meetings with your time of day. Sometimes the weather doesn't always go according to plan so keeping an open mind and being flexible if you have a break in the weather ensures you get the best memories captured. If you're having a summer wedding you defiantly have more flexibility than a winter wedding due to the longer days.

All the weddings below had very different lighting. We missed golden hour at Cat and Stuarts wedding because the speeches ran a little over needless to say they still have some lovely portraits and you can see a tiny bit of glow behind them. Look at the big windows behind Heather and Callum.
